Patrick Schulkers, Founder of Strokewise

While starting Strokewise, I have served as the development and financial director of two major non-profit organizations - the Friends of Cal Crew and California Rowing Club - since 2013, leading the day-to-day operations and fundraising activities.

During my time at Berkeley, I oversaw recruiting and served as the freshman coach, identifying and enrolling talent from across the world at the University of California, Berkeley.. In 2014, I coached the Third Varsity Eight to an Intercollegiate Rowing Association National Championship title. During my tenure I also led the Freshman Eight and Varsity Four to four Pac-12 titles ('13, '16, '17, '18).

I have also found success coaching on the international stage, winning the prestigious Henley Royal Regatta in the Visitors Challenge event, as well as serving as head coach of the US National Team Under-23 Men’s Pair and an assistant for the US National Team Under-23 Women’s Quad. The Men’s Pair finished eighth at the 2014 Under-23 World Championships, while the Women’s Quad took fifth. Additionally, I have coached numerous crews to victories at the Royal Canadian Henley Regatta.

Prior to my arrival in Berkeley, I spent three years as the head coach of the Novice Boy's team for the Marin Rowing Association. My last season at Marin, culminated in a Youth National Championship for the Boy's Lightweight Eight in 2011, a boat which included six novice oarsmen, three of which were freshmen.

I began my collegiate coaching career at the University of Cincinnati, where I was the head coach from 2002-2005. During my tenure, I helped rebuild the program and led the Bearcats back to the Eastern Collegiate Athletic Association (ECAC) Invitational Regatta after a six-year absence.

With an Industrial Systems Engineering degree from The Ohio State University, I also understand the importance of academics and education. During my time in Columbus, I fell in love with the sport of rowing, serving as an oarsman and president of the Ohio State Crew Club and competing in the Buckeyes’ Varsity eight at the Head of the Charles, ECAC, and IRA Championships.
